Anacostia River Virtual BioBlitz

The purpose of this event is to document the biodiversity of the Anacostia River and its watershed. Especially in the ecosystems along the main stem of the river and surrounding areas on the MD and DC portions of the river. It will be an iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/) app-based weekend-long event where people will be able to report observations on their own using the app from anywhere in the watershed. During this event, we will explore the biodiversity of Heritage and Kingman Islands and the adjacent tidal emergent wetlands. All observations should be made part of the Biodiversity of the Anacostia River project on iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/biodiversity-of-the-anacostia-river

Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival

Now in its 8th year, the Festival has proven to be the largest all-local music festival in Washington, DC.  Over 10,000 guests return every year for the music, food, and drinks -- but when it comes down to it, what draws the community to this festival is the community itself.

Join Living Classrooms Foundation for the 8th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival with Headliners Town Mountain, Dom Flemons, and Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen leading an incredible cast of nearly 40 local bluegrass, folk, and Americana artists for nine hours of music spread across five stages on beautiful Kingman Island.  In addition to the incredible local tunes, the Festival will feature fun for all ages, including various outdoor activities, educational tents, a kids’ corner, delicious food, beer, cocktails, and more. The Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival has become the largest all-local music festival in the District, attracting over 10,000 guests annually since 2014.

The Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival is a critical fundraising event for Living Classrooms Foundation, who provides hands-on education for disadvantaged youth across the DC region. It is an annual celebration of the fundamentally important role that community plays in lifting up those among us who are in greatest need.

Tickets and information at www.kingmanislandbluegrass.info or follow the Festival on social media at @KIBluegrassFest.
